The Institute of Psychotherapy and Social Studies needed a website to advertise their Degree & Diploma courses, provide information on the Institute and its public lectures and meetings, and to help people find therapists through their Referrals Service. The site needed to be easy to use, as many of the Institute's members were not particularly experienced with computers.
To that end, we designed the site with an emphasis on usability and accessibility, using PHP and a MySQL database to drive search engine-friendly pages. We created a password-protected area to facilitate interaction between members, and a searchable directory to enable the public to locate therapists. The Institute was previously relying on adverts in professional journals and broadsheet newspapers to promote its courses; within 12 months of the site going live, it was generating a third of all enquiries.
